Welcome to OLANET.biz (OceanLakesNetwork) site.

Out of frustration with COX that many of you have experienced in Ocean Lakes and other local communities I cut my cable connection with COX and put a high speed solution into service that I determined would work.

I am providing the details here so that you can duplicate what I am doing, and I am willing to provide technical support and the required hardware, or if you have the technical knowledge you can provide your own support and hardware.

The core of the solution is a commercially rated cellular modem/router often referred to as a HOTSPOT. I spent time and effort to identify the best available device to do this, however I will say that there are other less expensive devices that some of the cellular phone providers will sell or rent to you. I did test one from AT&T that did work, however their plan had a data limit on how much you could download. In addition the modem is not as capable as I decided I wanted. The following provides the basic description of the modem I am using and the picture below shows what it looks like. Depending on the interest in the community I would plan to order a quantity of them so that the cost could be lower to the community then individuals buying them. Then if they are purchased through us, we would then provide Tech Support and help with putting it into service. In addition we know that it works very well and would not disappoint you based on our experience to the last year. This does not of course guarantee that Team Mobil could not change something that would effect the speed etc.

The network that I am using is Team Mobile and the modem I am using, I purchased from a supplier in China. It works on any 4G/5G cellular network, however I have only currently been using if for more than a year on Team Mobile. It provides both ethernet connections, including a WAN connection, and two WiFi connection network speeds LTE(4G) and 5G. It supports two SIM cards and will fail over to the second SIM card which can be another cellular network provider such as AT&T, or Verizon. The device looks to the cellular provider like a cell phone and all that is required is the IMIE number for the device for the cellular provide to provision the SIM card so that when it is installed it will bring the modem onto their network with network access.

  1. The download speed I measure on my WiFi notebook computer is consistently (run on 7/17/2021) for the 5G connection was 63.35 Mbps and for the LTE connection was 23.07 Mbps. Upload was 15.40 Mbps. Both are more than able to stream 4K movies to your TV.
  2. The modem has a very large internal buffer which helps insure that can handle many connections/devices. For example I have an alarm system which makes a WiFi connection to it and also security cameras, and a ring video doorbell. We have three computers and a printer in addition connected along with the Samsung 4K 50 inch large screen high definition TV using the modem.
  3. Already mention is the duel SIM card capability for two networks. In addition another network can be connected to it via the ethernet WAN connection so that is will support additional speed and connections to make it available to your home network.
  4. The Team Mobile plan is UNLIMITED data so streaming high definition movies (4K) can be done with out limitations.

It is important to understand that for television you will either need to create an account on a provider that you can stream the channels to your TV or what I did was use Direct TV to provide a separate means of of providing normal TV channels  to my TV thereby making the cellular modem used for streaming movies and normal network activity such as email, ZOOM etc. While this is more expensive, it is in my opinion the best solution overall to give you the equivalent of a COX cable but without the problems. I would put my solution up against FIOS as previously in the previous home in the Kempsville are we had FIOS.

While this is a brief description, I plan to provide a questions and answers on the web site as I get them from you the community which are interested in working with us to roll this out to the community.

I know that you are interested in knowing what the cost would be. Frankly I do not know how many folks would be interested and need to know that level of interest in this. I think that volume will reduce the overall cost and I am working to determine this with Team Mobile and other cellular providers along with DirectTV
